Over five centuries ago, during the Age of Discovery, the Santa Catarina do Monte Sinai plied the waters between Portugal and Asia, carrying exotic goods such as silks, spices, tea and Cuban rum.
The flagship of legendary explorer Vasco de Gama, the ship disappeared in 1525, some say off the waters of Africa, others in the Indian Ocean. What happened remained one of maritime history’s great unsolved mysteries…until now.
During the building of our resort, fragments of an ancient wreck and crates of rum were found buried in the reef. This festive season, we bring the legend back to life, celebrating with the remarkably preserved rum our very own “Havana Nights”.
